Barbarian Vikings

In 2013 the Prague Vikings rugby league team will be registered in the Second Division Czech Rugby League competition, which is more flexible and less demanding than the First Division.

Our most important tournament in the first half of the year will be a home tournament on 4 May to be held as part of the Prague Sports Tours International 9s tournament.  Players and supporters should SAVE THE DATE for this one!

For more information and the dates and locations of other tournaments, read more below.

As participants in the Second Division, we have the opportunity to play in up to five tournaments between now and the summer. The tournaments can be 9-a-side or 13-a-side depending on the tournament in question and player numbers.

The dates and locations for the tournaments are:

6/7 April - Chrudim

20/21 April - Brno

4 May - Prague

26 May - Pardubice

8/9 June - Hradec Kralove

Prague will only host one tournament, on Saturday 4 May, which will be held as part of the Prague Sports Tours International 9s tournament. We would especially like to get as many players as possible for this home tournament so please SAVE THE DATE.

As for the away tournaments, if we can get the numbers, the club will organize transport at least for Brno, Pardubice and Hradec Kralove.

After the summer there will be a series of promotional tournaments held at various other locations in the Czech Republic.

For those interested in playing first division, the possibility will exist via our associated first division club Teplice (formerly Usti nad Labem). They are in the process of making connections with a club in the south of France (details to come) which will also offer interesting opportunities for travel and international games this year.

As a club, the main focus of the Barbarian Vikings this year will be to raise the number of players at the club, throughout all codes including rugby union, rugby league and touch rugby. Training sessions will continue to be twice a week (probably Sundays and Wednesdays – location to be advised shortly) with the pitch shared between contact and touch players. Everyone is encouraged to bring friends either for contact training or for touch (especially for newcomers to learn the basics of the game). We will start outdoor training in a few weeks.
